So, you’re thinking about getting a heat pump installed and now you’re wondering how to choose the right installer. It’s an important decision, and you want to know you’re in safe hands. Here’s what to look for.

Reviews and testimonials. What are other customers saying? It’s a quick way to gauge quality.
Accreditations and training. Look for certification from trusted organisations like Heat Geek, and manufacturer training.
References and case studies. Ask for examples of past work. A good installer will have no problem showing you.
Approach to installation. Do they use best practice, like weather compensation controls and open loop design?
Technical expertise. Are you dealing with a heating professional or a salesperson?
Local support. Are they nearby for servicing and aftercare? And do you want them travelling several hours a day to install your eco-friendly heat pump?
Quality of equipment. Do they fit reliable, high-performance units?

Good to knowYou don’t have to use an MCS-registered installer, and MCS on its own doesn’t guarantee a good installation. To claim the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant, though, your installer will at least need to work with an MCS umbrella scheme. The best installers can be found both on and off the MCS register.

Cost is important, but investing in a high-quality installation pays off in the long run with a longer-lasting unit and higher efficiency. A good job now means fewer problems later.
