Brighton & Hove Heat Pump Installation – Smart Design Meets Precise Execution
At Option Energy Solutions, we’re always up for a challenge. This project in Brighton & Hove stands out as a real team effort, combining intelligent system design with meticulous installation work from start to finish.
📍 Project Location: Brighton & Hove
System Installed: 7kW Vaillant aroTHERM Plus
Key Features: First-time 3-pipe buffer, matched flow rate design, premium filtration and water treatment
The Challenge
The property had a lot of existing 22mm pipework hidden beneath kitchen units and floorboards, a potential bottleneck when designing a low-temperature system. Upsizing these pipes would have meant ripping up parts of the home. Instead, we engineered a clever workaround.
Using Vaillant’s aroTHERM Plus, we specified a 3-pipe buffer setup, a first for us at Option. This allowed us to balance flow and return temperatures while keeping the existing 22mm pipework in place.
The unit’s rated flow rate is around 1200 litres per hour, and to keep efficiency levels high, we paired it with a Wilo Stratos PICO pump, perfectly matched to maintain the correct circulation rate without oversizing.
On the Ground
This was no solo effort. Our lead engineer Ben from Revolution Heating pulled together a brilliant on-site team of six. The attention to detail across pipework, lagging, electrics and commissioning was second to none.
Everything was installed to VDI 2035 standards, the industry gold-standard for water quality in heat pump systems. This reduces the risk of corrosion and extends the life of both the unit and the radiators. You can learn more about VDI 2035 here.
To take things a step further, we installed a Secon Renewables filter, a premium component designed to trap magnetite, sludge, and air. We’re always testing new kit and this one performed beautifully.
Commissioning & Results
The system was commissioned to a low curve of 0.5, optimising seasonal performance. Despite the restricted pipework, efficiency loss was negligible, thanks to the carefully calculated flow rates and the 3-pipe setup doing its job.
The home now enjoys stable comfort, lower running costs, and a future-proof, low-carbon heating system built for Brighton’s energy-conscious households.
Why This Matters
This job demonstrates how smart design can solve tough retrofit problems. For homeowners with older properties or hidden pipework, it’s proof that heat pumps aren’t just for new builds, they’re for anyone ready to upgrade to a cleaner, quieter, and more efficient way of heating their home.
